Enjoying a glass of Rose while gazing at the beautiful North Georgia Mountains

Guess what?   We DON'T need to go to California and visit Napa for great, beautiful, scenic wineries and delicious wines...  There are amazing wineries just an hour or two north of Atlanta!!

 "What??" you say??

Yes!!  A two hour drive?  Perfect for a girls getaway, a romantic weekend celebration, a special event or just a fun vacation.  We went to stay at our awesome Lake House at Lake Chatuge, The Bear Den Chatuge for a few days and it was the perfect escape for a quaint, romantic getaway to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We sipped our wine overlooking Lake Chatuge, went hiking and then spent several days exploring several award winning vineyards!!  Could it be any more convenient??).  A link to their Airbnb site.

Sip award winning wine, enjoy a delicious meal and soak in the views of the North Georgia Mountains and Western North Carolina Mountains... you will enjoy it!  Georgia's wine country is quickly becoming known for it's fine family vineyards. The wine industry in the State of Georgia is booming. North Georgia is home to a wide variety wineries and vineyards. Many varieties of grapes can thrive in our mountain microclimate and the wineries are happy to show off their award-winning wines.

Crane Creek Vineyard

This one is fantastic for a great Friday night out! They have live music, great food, fire pit and wonderful wine. Read a previous blog post for more information but this vineyard is a local favorite and is only about 12-15 minutes from the Lake House!! Perfect!

Eagle Fork Vineyards

While I have not visited this vineyard yet, rest assured it is on my list!! It is located about 10 minutes from the lake hours so it makes it a perfect spot for a late afternoon wine tasting!

We started at Cottage Vineyard and Kaya Vineyards on the same afternoon and we were immediately hooked.   Beautiful rolling hills, gorgeous countryside and great staff at both places sharing their knowledge of wine making, the area and the wines.  We met some other couples as we sipped wine and enjoyed the view.  Of course, we purchased wines at both places and in the several weeks since we have been home, we have reminisced about our trip with each bottle of wine that we have opened.  It is like recreating our weekend with every bottle!  I love it!

This vineyard might be one of my favorites that we visited. I loved the view, the wines were Y.U.M.M.Y and the food was 5 star. It was delicious. We ordered sandwiches off their menu and I would share the photo but we ate them so fast, I have nothing to share except an image of an empty plate. :-(. So, here are a few others.

While this one was closed, the caretaker was onsite and he generously allowed us to wander around.  We enjoyed speaking with him for a few minutes and he gave us a quick tour of the attached cottage and showed us the tasting room.  With promises of an upcoming visit, we grudgingly left this gorgeous area and headed for home.

Frogtown Cellars

We LOVED this vineyard... we did not taste any wines here but we walked around and looked at the many awards they have won for their wines.  It WILL be a place we would go back and taste... we could not this time around because we were heading back to Atlanta and did not want to drink and drive!  Never a good idea!! So, we wandered and enjoyed the sights.

A few that we did not get to visit but will on our next go round are

  • Three Sisters Vineyards - We drove by this as it is right next door (literally) to Frogtown Cellars but it was closed and the gate was shut so this will be for another visit as well.

  • Wolf Mountain Vineyards - This one is supposed to be AMAZING but it was closed the day we were in Dahlonega so we must go back. :) Tip: Their Sunday Brunch is rumored to be the best anywhere and a click on that link will get you to their Brunch menu. YUM!! We drive by this one to peek and just the entrance is AHmazing!!

  • Yonah Mountain Vineyards - We did not see this one at all but have also heard great things about it. I encourage you to visit their website to get a sneak peak of what you can expect. WOW.
